Northstar Wind Towers has begun operations to produce new megawatt towers for the wind industry. The towers are engineered to individual turbine manufacturer's specifications and are sold as an integrated part of the turbine assembly.
According to Northstar, the tower's modular design enables taller towers because its design allows the necessary wider base diameters that conventional tubular towers cannot provide due to transportation restrictions.
Northstar's towers may be transported on standard flatbed trucks, so no special trailers or oversize permits are required, according to the company. Using patented fastening technology, Northstar's towers avoid costly flange-connected designs while maintaining the appearance of conventional tubular towers.
The first towers are scheduled for deployment later this year.
