Holyoke, Mass.-based ISO New England Inc., operator of the region's bulk power system and wholesale electricity markets, has named Vamsi Chadalavada senior vice president and chief operating officer (COO). Chadalavada replaces Stephen G. Whitley, who retired from ISO New England after being named president and CEO of the New York ISO.

In his role as senior vice president and COO, Chadalavada will be responsible for the day-to-day management of ISO New England system operations, system planning, wholesale markets development, and operations and information services. Previously, he was senior vice president of market and system solutions at ISO New England. As a member of the executive management team, Chadalavada will continue to report directly to Gordon van Welie, ISO New England's president and chief executive officer.

‘Vamsi has been a key member of ISO New England's senior management since he joined the company almost five years ago,’ says van Welie. ‘His expertise in energy management and wholesale market systems, market design and project delivery has been well tested over the past few years as the ISO worked to develop the region's suite of wholesale electricity markets.’

Prior to joining ISO New England in 2003, Chadalavada was vice president and general manager of Siemens Energy's management and information systems department, where he was responsible for operations and services, research and development, business development, and marketing. Chadalavada holds a degree in electrical engineering from Iowa State University.
