Southern California Edison's (SCE) board of directors has elected Stuart R. Hemphill vice president. He is responsible for SCE's renewable and alternative power department, which procures electricity from wind, solar, biomass, geothermal and small-hydro resources.

Hemphill currently manages and administers SCE's $2.5 billion portfolio of renewable and alternative power contracts. He also handles agreements related to customer generation applications, including distributed generation, photovoltaic and wind technologies.

‘Stuart Hemphill has done a superb job leading the utility in this area, especially in helping to meet California's ambitious renewable energy goals,’ says Pedro Pizarro, SCE's senior vice president, power procurement.

Hemphill has held a variety of positions since joining SCE in 1987 as an engineer in the company's system planning organization, where he evaluated new investments in transmission, distribution, generation and energy efficiency.
