The city of Coppell, Texas, has partnered with Direct Energy, a subsidiary of the Centrica group of companies. As part of a one-year retail electric service agreement between Direct Energy and Coppell, 50% of the city's annual electricity consumption will be offset with electricity generated from wind power.

Direct Energy has committed to purchase all renewable energy offtakes and associated renewable energy credits through long-term contracts with five West Texas wind farms with a portfolio totaling 813 MW.

‘We do believe there's a role for everyone to play in addressing the very real issue of climate change,’ says Maura Clark, president of Direct Energy's commercial and industrial energy group. ‘Direct Energy applauds the city of Coppell's commitment to leading by example through a comprehensive sustainability program that includes a proactive approach to its energy usage and needs.’
