Portland, Ore.-based PPM Energy has donated $250,000 for college training programs for the Columbia Gorge Community College renewable energy technician training program in Oregon and the new PPM Energy classroom at Iowa Lakes Community College wind energy and turbine technology program in Iowa, according to the company.

PPM Energy says there is a growing need for skilled wind technicians, which led to its decision to provide funds.

Last April, PPM Energy gave $100,000 for a new classroom at the Iowa Lakes Estherville campus, which houses the oldest wind technician training program in the country.

In addition, PPM Energy committed $50,000 per year for three years to Columbia Gorge in The Dalles, Ore., to assist in the development of its renewable energy training program. The funds will be used primarily for faculty support.
