Wyoming's Laramie County Community College (LCCC) is launching a wind energy program that will include three options: basic wind technician certificate (can be obtained in one semester or less), intermediate wind technician certificate (two semesters or less) and an associate of science with a concentration on wind energy (four semesters).
Initial program courses are available now, and the wind energy courses will be available this fall. The program will make use of LCCC's integrated systems training center on the main Cheyenne campus and the newly installed wind turbine on the Albany County Campus in Laramie. LCCC is one of eight programs in the nation to offer this certification.
Also, wind energy veteran Michael Schmidt has joined the staff of LCCC.
‘I am very much looking forward to joining the LCCC team,’ Schmidt says. ‘I believe that the commitment that the college has made to the developing wind industry is a good indicator that the college understands the impact that the wind industry will have on the state of Wyoming.’
