Bilbao, Spain-based Ingeteam will invest 17 million euros in a power electronics and high-power machine experimental research center in southern Europe. This two-facility center will validate the latest technologies in high-power electronics and electric machines for the energy, rail transport, marine propulsion and steelmaking sectors, according to the company.
The two centers will be located at separate facilities that will complement each other with regard to objectives and the necessary technologies. The High Power Electronics Laboratory, at the Zamudio Technology Park, will focus on the study of medium-power converters by means of experiments involving inductive loads, with power being taken from the grid only to compensate for system loss.
The focus of the Electric Machine Laboratory in Beasain Spain, will be centered on electric machines and machine-converter units. As the work will involve the use of large electric machines, the laboratory will be situated in a building adjoining the Indar Electric factory in Beasain.
