Gerry Cauley has been appointed by the North American Electric Reliability Corp.'s (NERC) board of trustees to serve as the organization's president and CEO. The announcement comes at the conclusion of an extensive search begun after current CEO Rick Sergel announced his intent to retire earlier this year.
Cauley comes to NERC from his role as president and CEO of the Southeast Electric Reliability Council Reliability Corp., a position he has held since 2007. Prior to this, he served for 10 years in positions of increasing responsibility at NERC, culminating as vice president and director of standards.
‘We have many opportunities ahead of us, notably including continued focus on cybersecurity and other emerging reliability issues,’ says Cauley. ‘I approach each of these with confidence that NERC, its technical committees and our partners in government will work together to address concerns and find solutions.’
He will officially assume his role as NERC's president and CEO on Jan. 1, 2010. Over the coming month, Cauley, Sergel and NERC's executive management team will work together to ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities.
