enXco, an EDF Energies Nouvelles company, and Southern Minnesota Municipal Power Agency (SMMPA) have entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) to develop and build the 100.5 MW Wapsipinicon Wind Project in Minnesota. enXco will own and operate the project, while SMMPA will purchase the project's output over a 20-year period.
The 67-turbine project will use 1.5 MW GE turbines and is expected to be operational by the end of the year. Located in Mower County, the wind farm follows the successful development of the 100.5 MW Grand Meadow Wind Farm.
‘enXco is excited to help SMMPA bring the economic and environmental benefits of this wind project to its municipal members,’ says Steve Peluso, enXco's Midwest regional development director. ‘We have been an active developer in Southwestern Minnesota for a long time, and in 2002 we started developing the Wapsipinicon project as we envisioned transmission availability and good wind resources would provide development opportunities in the Southeastern part of the state.’
