With approval from the City of Cheyenne, Wyo., NextEra Energy Resources is on its way to expanding the Roundhouse Renewable Energy wind farm.
According to local coverage from the Wyoming Tribute Eagle, Cheyenne’s city council voted unanimously on Monday to expand a 30-year lease agreement between NextEra and the city from 12,000 to 16,700 acres of land. In total, the wind farm would be situated on 30,000 acres of public and private land in Laramie County.
Enyo Renewable Energy conducted the initial development of the wind farm, which will be further developed, built, owned and operated by NextEra subsidiary Roundhouse Renewable Energy LLC. Colorado’s Platte River Power Authority has agreed to purchase power from the project.
Per the report, Ryan Fitzpatrick, director of Roundhouse Renewable Energy, says the new lease amendment will allow the project to grow by an additional 27.5 MW through 11 more turbines, up from the original 160 MW, 64-turbine proposal. The company must still receive approval from other local authorities, as well as Wyoming’s Department of Environmental Quality.
