Jan Behrendt Ibsoe, a vice president with ABS Consulting Renewable Energy, has been named a member of the National Research Council Committee on Offshore Wind Energy Turbine Structural and Operating Safety.
The committee is responsible for producing a study will that provide guidance to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE), formerly the Minerals Management Service, on its proposed approach to overseeing the development and safe operation of offshore wind turbines.
The committee will review and comment on the applicability and adequacy of existing standards and practices for the design, fabrication and installation of offshore wind turbines. The committee will also review the use of third-party certified verification agents to identify acceptable standards to be applied to individual projects.
The National Wind Turbine Operating Safety Committee is sponsored by the BOEMRE, an agency of the U.S. Department of the Interior.
