Sundance Square, a mixed-use realty development in Fort Worth, Texas, plans to offset 10% of its yearly energy needs for the next five years by buying renewable energy from Texas-based Green Mountain Energy Co.
In 2008, Sundance Square will purchase an estimated 6.3 million kWh of Green Mountain's power, which includes solar, wind, geothermal, biogas, biomass and low-impact hydro sources. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), this purchase makes Sundance Square the largest green power purchaser in Texas among EPA's real estate partners and the second largest nationally in the real estate industry.
In addition, Sundance Square and Green Mountain plan to jointly develop marketing and sales initiatives to promote renewable energy among current tenants, visitors and local Fort Worth residents.
