Siemens will become a 49% shareholder in A2SEA A/S, a supplier of installation services for the construction of offshore wind farms. Danish energy company DONG Energy will continue to be A2SEA's main shareholder. A2SEA is based in Fredericia, Denmark, and has a workforce of about 200. The company will now look into the possibility of expanding its installation capacity.
‘It is our aim to foster the industrialization of offshore wind power,’ says Wolfgang Dehen, CEO of Siemens Energy. ‘Together with Siemens, A2SEA can build optimized vessels for the installation of offshore wind turbines.’
The investment agreement is subject to the approval of antitrust authorities. Closing of the agreement is expected in the fourth quarter. The subscription amount to be paid by Siemens for the new shares in A2SEA is approximately 115 million euros, which will be paid in two installments this year and in 2011.
