Siemens Launches Art Competition

Siemens Energy has announced an art competition to coincide with the December 2010 opening of its Hutchinson, Kan.-based wind turbine nacelle assembly facility.

The competition, which the company is calling The Art of Wind, is open to artists 18 years and older with some connection to the state of Kansas. Conceptual proposals must be received by Siemens on Aug. 30. Proposals will be judged and prizes will be awarded by Sept. 15. The grand-prize winner will then be funded and commissioned to complete the artwork by Nov. 15.

The grand-prize winner will receive a $2,500 payment and will be funded up to $10,000 in direct expense reimbursement related to the creation of the artwork.
Siemens says construction is well under way, and the company expects the nacelle assembly facility to become operational in December. The 300,000 square-foot facility is expected to employ approximately 400.

Siemens also recently expanded its 600,000 square-foot blade manufacturing facilities in Fort Madison, Iowa, that it opened in 2007 and now employs more than 600 workers.
