PennFuture Comments On State Passage Of Clean Energy Bill

0

Citizens for Pennsylvania's Future (PennFuture), a statewide public interest membership organization that advances policies to protect and improve the state's environment and economy, has called the recent passage by the Pennsylvania Senate of Special Session Senate Bill 1, a bill to fund clean energy, ‘a first step towards making Pennsylvania a 21st century energy leader, but more needs to be done,’ according to John Hanger, PennFuture's president and CEO.

Hanger goes on to say, ‘Other states, including Vermont, California, New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, already have larger and more robust renewable energy programs. We must improve this bill to move the funding into the marketplace faster, and provide more dedicated funding to solar and wind power. Otherwise, the jobs and investments will go elsewhere.’

PennFuture also calls for the removal of a provision authorizing $25 million for coal-fired power plants to pay for legally required pollution controls. Hanger calls on the bill to be improved when state legislators return from their winter break.
