St. John, Newfoundland-based utility company Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro (NLH) has signed a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Toronto-based renewable energy company SkyPower Corp., to provide wind power to the island from its Fermeuse wind project. The 27 MW wind project in Fermeuse will consist of nine, 3 MW wind turbines and is expected to be in full operation by the end of 2008.
‘I'm very pleased that the wind project in Fermeuse is moving forward as planned,’ says Jim Keating, vice president of business development for NLH. ‘This project will provide additional cost-effective energy and offer a strong renewable energy option for [NLH].’
