LWS Awarded Pole Bid For FPL Energy Wind Project

0

Laminated Wood Systems Inc. (LWS), a Seward, Neb.-headquartered supplier of engineered laminated wood poles and pole management products, has received an order for nearly 700 E-LAM wood transmission structures that will be part of FPL Energy's Crystal Lake wind farm in northern Iowa.

The 161 kV project consists of 36 miles of transmission line that will require 605 tangent poles complete with framing kits, LWS says. In addition, the line also includes 73 self-supporting unguyed angle structures that use a direct embed foundation design. A considerable number of the structures are designed to support distribution underbuild and communication attachments.

The line will be constructed in eight dead-end to dead-end segments. Fabrication of the structures will be staged to match the eight construction segments, the company adds, thus allowing the conductor to be strung as the project progresses. Delivery of the first tangent poles will begin in December and is expected to be completed in early 2008.
