JDR, McAllister Towing Plan East Coast Offshore Wind Hub

Houston-based JDR Cable Systems has signed a memorandum of understanding with New York City-based McAllister Towing in support of U.S. offshore wind.

The MOU is focused on the development and collaborative operation of an East Coast subsea power cable service base with an integrated cable training center. The partners are planning to develop the facility on an existing McAllister quayside waterfront property in the Northeast.

Initially, the base would serve as a staging area for subsea power cables to enable local storage, maintenance and deployment for offshore wind projects. Longer-term plans include the establishment of office, storage, workshop and training facilities to develop offshore high-voltage electrical and fiber optic competencies to the local workforce.

“McAllister makes the perfect partner for JDR, as their vessel and tug experiences will complement our strategy for development of services during the installation, commissioning, operating and decommissioning phases of this new industry,” says David Nemetz, JDR’s director for the Americas.
