Elk River, Minn.-based Great River Energy has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Portland, Ore.-based PPM Energy, a unit of Iberdrola Renewables, to purchase wind power from the 99 MW Elm Creek Wind Farm in southern Minnesota. Construction is expected to begin in fall 2008.
The Elm Creek wind power project is expected to feature 66 wind turbines at 1.5 MW each. PPM is developing the new wind farm, which is expected to begin operations in December 2008.
‘With the addition of the output from Elm Creek Wind Farm, Great River Energy will have over 300 MW of wind capacity under contract,’ says Jon Brekke, Great River Energy's vice president of member services. ‘That gives us a great start toward meeting the state of Minnesota's renewable energy standard.’
