The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has appointed Mark A. Gabriel the new administrator of the Western Area Power Administration (WAPA), one of four power marketing administrations the DOE oversees.
As WAPA's administrator, Gabriel will be responsible for managing the nonprofit federal agency, which delivers power from 57 power plants operated by the Bureau of Reclamation, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the International and Water Commission to the western region of the U.S.
Gabriel has more than two decades of leadership experience in the electric sector and is currently the CEO and president of Power Pundits LLC, a Colorado-based management consulting firm specializing in the energy industry.
Previously, he was the senior vice president for Black and Veatch Management Consulting. Gabriel has also served as senior vice president for energy at R.W. Beck, a national engineering-based consulting firm; the CEO of Positive Energy Directions; and the Electric Power Research Institute's acting president for EPRI Traditional.
