Direct Energy, CAPP Complete Renewable Energy Credits Deal

Realizing the growth and potential of wind energy and the need for private and public entities to be environmentally conscious, Direct Energy and select members of the Cities Aggregation Power Project (CAPP), a nonprofit group that pools Texas cities' electric power needs in order to negotiate lower, more stable prices through bulk purchasing, have completed a deal for the cities to buy almost 13,000 renewable energy credits (RECs).

The 10CAPP member cities that will be purchasing RECs are Addison, Arlington, Carrollton, Eastland, Euless, Frisco, Highland Park, Plano, Sweetwater and Watauga.

‘This was CAPP's first foray into renewable energy, and thanks to our partner, Direct Energy, it's been an overwhelming success,’ says Jay Doegey, chairman of CAPP. ‘As environmental issues continue to move to the forefront of the Texas energy community, I am confident we will be increasing the purchase of RECs – for the benefit of Texas cities and their citizens – in the future.’

Direct Energy will purchase the energy and associated RECs from five West Texas wind farms, with total output of 813 MW.
