Chicago's mayor, Richard Daley, has indicated that he is open to allowing wind turbines to be located in Lake Michigan, the Chicago Tribune reports.
The mayor was asked about a possible project after the Evanston City Council voted unanimously to ask developers to submit ideas about building turbines just north of Chicago.
‘I think you have to look at it,’ Daley says. ‘If you want to talk about the environment or about the clean environment – alternative energy – everyone has to look at that.’
The mayor added that putting smaller turbines on three water-intake cribs two miles out in Lake Michigan is being considered.
