The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has approved a renewable energy contract for San Diego Gas and Electric Co. (SDG&E), furthering the state's progress toward its renewable energy goals.

Through the 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Alta Mesa LLC, SDG&E will procure renewable energy from a 40 MW, fourth-phase build-out of the Alta Mesa Wind Project in the San Gorgonio Pass near Palm Springs, Calif. Under the PPA, SDG&E will receive an average of approximately 123 GWh of energy per year beginning in July 2011.
