Burns & McDonnell, a Kansas City, Mo.-based provider of engineering, architecture, construction, environmental and consulting services, has been awarded a contract to provide initial development and conceptual engineering support for a proposed 4,000 MW wind energy facility combined with conventional generating facilities to be located on up to 200,000 acres in five Texas Panhandle counties.
Among the work to be performed in the initial phase of the project, Burns & McDonnell will provide a technical and operational analysis of delivering the project's power with high-voltage direct-current or alternating-current technology to the power system managed by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas.
Burns & McDonnell and JD Consulting are providing assistance as Mesa Power – the wind farm's developer – negotiates wind lease and easement agreements with landowners in Roberts County and adjacent counties in the Texas Panhandle, the company adds.
