The U.S. Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has extended the 30-day public comment period for the environmental assessment (EA) of a proposed wind lease area offshore New York.
On June 6, BOEM published the “Environmental Assessment for Commercial Wind Lease Issuance and Site Assessment Activities on the Atlantic Outer Continental Shelf Offshore New York,” which covers a proposed 81,130-acre area approximately 11 miles south of Long Island.
Citing requests from stakeholders, BOEM has now pushed back the public input period on this EA from July 6 to July 13. The agency said in June it would take comments into account when it determines whether to issue a Finding of No Significant Impact or to conduct additional analysis under the National Environmental Policy Act.
Comments can be submitted electronically or can be mailed to BOEM. More information can be found here.
