Activists Block Road To Wind Development

Activists from Maine Earth First!, the local component of the national environmental group Earth First!, blockaded Goldbrook Road – the access point to the Kibby Mountain wind project in Franklin County, Maine – ahead of tonight's Land Use Regulation Commission's meeting to consider a proposal for a similar project on neighboring Sisk Mountain.

Four of the activists, including one who chained herself to part of a tractor trailer, were arrested Tuesday during the protest, the Portland Press Herald reports.

TransCanada has erected 24 turbines on Kibby Mountain and has begun construction on an additional 22 turbines.

The activists oppose developing large wind farms in Maine's North Woods.
