Woodward Governor Co.'s recently unveiled its CONCYCLE activeFRT power converter technology. The active FRT technology allows doubly fed induction generator-type wind turbines to meet all current international grid code connectivity requirements without restriction.
In the event of ground faults or voltage sags, wind power plants equipped with the activeFRT technology remain connected and support the remaining grid with up to 100% fast reactive current, according to the company. When the grid becomes more stable, the activeFRT system returns quickly to provide active power again. No firing of the crowbar is necessary during grid faults.
