WebCore Technologies LLC has been awarded $1.8 million as a part of the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) small-business Phase III Xlerator program.

The company was selected for its next phase development and commercialization of TYCOR W, a composite material which helps strengthen wind turbine blades.

WebCore's product combines fiber reinforcements, such as E-glass roving or mat, with closed-cell, low-density foam in an engineered architecture. The patented core material has been in use for over two years in utility-class wind turbine blades and is undergoing qualification for use with additional 1.5 MW to 3 MW turbines that have blade lengths in the 40 meter to 60 meter range.

Phase III Xlerator awards were created to help small businesses develop manufacturing processes to scale up production.

WebCore will use the funding to expand production capacity of TYCOR W at its Miamisburg, Ohio-based manufacturing facility.

In other company news, WebCore has closed a $2 million investment with a private investment group. The funding will accelerate domestic and international growth for the company. The funding will also enable WebCore to invest in equipment and people. The company says several new positions in production, sales and executive ranks will be added over the next 18 months.
