Wasatch Wind has received a $600,000 grant award from the Pennsylvania Energy Development Authority (PEDA) to support the installation and testing of the company's wind tower systems (WTS) division's space frame tower (SFT) with a utility-scale wind turbine, utilizing the company's Hi-Jack lifting system.
The SFT and Hi-Jack systems enable less-expensive, less-intrusive and smaller-footprint wind developments on sensitive sites. The company's products transport on standard flatbed trucks and eliminate the requirement for large 40-foot-wide roads to support crawler crane movement between turbines, both of which will reduce the environmental impact of wind developments in Pennsylvania.
‘Innovative wind projects like the one proposed by wind tower systems offer the potential for exciting opportunities in the commonwealth as we work towards building a new energy economy,’ says Kathleen A. McGinty, Department of Environmental Protection secretary.
Under the PEDA grant, WTS expects to complete the installation of its first commercial tower in Pennsylvania with a major wind turbine manufacturer in 2008.
