Vindicator Laser Wind Sensor Begins Second Phase Of Testing

0

Manassas, Va.-based Catch the Wind Ltd.'s Vindicator Laser Wind Sensor (LWS) has begun phase II of the research development and demonstration (RD&D) program at the Wind Energy Institute of Canada (WEICan). Testing and completion of this phase is scheduled for January 2009.

In July, the Vindicator LWS was accepted into the WEICan RD&D program. Phase I consisted of system delivery and evaluation at WEICan to determine if the system was operating properly. Phase II includes the correlation of Vindicator LWS wind data with various wind speed and direction sensors and culminates with its integration into a Windmatic 65 kW wind turbine directional control system.

‘This is a unique opportunity to evaluate a new technology that has the promise of changing how the wind turbine industry senses wind,’ says Scott Harper, CEO of WEICan.

WEICan plans to provide a preliminary report on testing results in November.
