The Russian Association of Wind Power Industry (RAWI) says Vestas has signed an agreement to build a wind turbine production plant in the Ulyanovsk region of Russia.

The head of the region, Sergey Morozov; general director of Ulyanovsk Region Development Corp., Sergey Vasin; and Rabek Nielsen and David Rowen, representatives of Vestas Wind Systems A/S, a member of RAWI, signed an agreement to invest in the construction of the facility.

The plant will focus specifically on wind turbine blades but could be further expanded, says RAWI.

“Vestas is also planning to launch training programs to facilitate the skill and knowledge transfer necessary to set up local production,” says Vasin. “The programs will be developed together with Ulyanovsk educational institutions.”
