Vestas says two product upgrades can boost annual energy production (AEP) by at least 13% on medium- and low-wind sites.
Based on its 2 MW turbine platform, Vestas says the 2 MW turbine with 110-meter rotors will yield additional AEP of at least 13.6% compared to the V100-1.8 MW.
The V100-2.0 MW version will boost 12.4% of AEP compared to the V90-1.8 MW.
The prototype for the V110-2.0 MW will be installed in Denmark in the first quarter of 2014, and serial production of both the V100-2.0 MW and V110-2.0 MW turbines will begin in the second quarter of 2014,Vestas notes.
The V110-2.0 MW turbine will be equipped with a 54-meter structural shell blade, which requires a lower capital investment to manufacture and can be outsourced for third-party production in specific markets.
The V100-2.0 MW turbine will be available for medium-wind sites, and the V110-2.0 MW turbine will be offered for low wind sites. Both turbines will be available in 50 Hz and 60 Hz.
