Vestas Repowering Wind Farm In Austrian Mountains

Vestas has inked a deal to repower what it says is one of the highest-located wind projects in Europe.

Located in the Niedere Tauern mountains in Styria, Austria, the Tauernwindpark operates 1,900 meters (approximately 6,234 feet) above sea level. The 22.75 MW project, owned by ImWind, currently consists of 13 V66-1750 kW wind turbines.

Catering to the specific demands of the location, Vestas will provide nine V112-3.45 MW turbines to repower the existing machines and will use a customized solution to ensure safe and efficient transportation of the turbines to and from the site.

Vestas says its construction team collaborated with transport and logistic experts to provide special transport and lifting tools to ensure a timely and smooth construction phase. Additionally, the wind farm will feature site-specific towers with a hub height of 106 meters in order to best adapt to the conditions of the site.
