Construction has commenced on a service base for RWE’s 1 GW Thor offshore wind farm.
A 50-person team will work from the new building, and will operate and maintain Thor, Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm to date, in shifts. Construction is expected to take 12 months to complete.
“Our Thor offshore wind farm is located approximately 22 kilometers from the Danish Port of Thorsminde,” says Pernille Asgaard Haaning, CEO of RWE Denmark.
“The port therefore offers the shortest sea route to the wind farm, making Thorsminde the ideal place for our new operations and maintenance base. By investing several million euros in Thorsminde and by creating up to 60 permanent jobs in the long-run, we will contribute to the local economy and community.”
The service building is set to cover 2,300 square meters across three floors and will comprise a control room to monitor and manage wind farm activities, warehousing and office facilities, as well as a canteen and rooftop terrace.
The team expects to move into the new service base next year.
