Vestas will re-release the V90-3.0 MW offshore wind turbine for sale, effective May 1. In 2007, Vestas temporarily withdrew its V90-3.0 MW offshore wind turbine from the market due to problems with the turbine's gearbox.
During the summer/autumn of 2007, the cause of the problems with the gearbox was mapped, and the gearbox is now going through the last steps in Vestas' quality-assurance model.
‘The V90-3.0 MW offshore turbine with the new gearbox solution has now been thoroughly tested at our advanced testing facilities in Arhus, Denmark,’ says Finn Strom Madsen, president of Vestas Technology research and development. ‘We still need to carry out a few more tests, but we are convinced that the turbine will also pass these.’
