Vestas Ramping Up Operations At Italian Blade Factory

Vestas plans to invest EUR 10 million to launch V112-3.0 MW blade production at its Taranto, Italy, blade factory. The company says it will offer employment opportunities to a number of the 120 workers it laid off after recently closing its nacelle plant in the region.

Vestas is committed to hiring, after professional re-training, 30 former nacelle-plant employees for work in the blades factory. Depending on market conditions, Vestas says up to an additional 60 employees from the closed nacelle facility could be offered employment at the blade factory.

Furthermore, 30 nacelles employees could be hired in Vestas' facilities in the U.K., Spain, Denmark or Germany, depending on the individual's professional qualifications and personnel requirements at these facilities, the company says.

In November, Vestas also announced it is seeking "hundreds" of new employees to ramp up its manufacturing plants in Colorado by the first half of 2014. However, the company remains committed to reducing its overall global workforce to 16,000 employees by year-end as part of its ongoing turnaround plan.
