Vestas plans to launch the new V112-3 MW wind turbine for the offshore market at the European Offshore Wind Conference in Stockholm, Sweden.
The V112-3 MW offshore turbine can generate more power than other turbines in the 3 MW class and is optimized for conditions at sea, according to Vestas. It features an extended production envelope and delivers optimal output. The V112-3 MW wind turbine will be class individually IECS certified for each separate offshore project.
‘The launch of yet another turbine for the offshore market underlines our commitment to remain a strong and leading player in the offshore industry,’ says Anders Soe-Jensen, president of Vestas offshore. ‘Vestas is fully dedicated to keep servicing our offshore customers and to provide them with the best possible business case certainty.’
Vestas will also join a research project at Nowitech, the Norwegian Research Center For Offshore Wind Technology, about floating foundations suitable for water depths of more than 30 meters.
Marketing of the V112-3 MW offshore turbine will begin immediately, and the first turbines will be installed in late 2010, with serial delivery in 2011.
