The nacelle for Vestas' V164-8.0 MW prototype offshore wind turbine has been completed at Lindo Industrial Park in Denmark.
The nacelle is 20 meters long, 8 meters wide and 8 meters high and weighs approximately 390 tons including the hub. Vestas says the nacelle is now en route to the Danish national test center at Osterild, where further tests will be conducted to ensure the turbine's reliability and performance.
‘This means we can now take another step closer to bringing the V164-8.0 MW to our customers," comments Vestas Chief Technology Officer Anders Vedel.
Installation of the turbine is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2014.
