The Utility Wind Integration Group (UWIG) has released an updated version of a summary table detailing markets and market rules for wind energy and capacity in North America. Capturing the state of markets as of August, the document represents an updating of a table submitted by UWIG at the December 2004 Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) technical conference, ‘Assessing the State of Wind Energy in Wholesale Electricity Markets,’ which was updated in September 2007.
The document was compiled by Sari Fink, Jennifer Rogers and Kevin Porter of Exeter Associates, with funding support from the Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
The document covers PJM Interconnection, the New York Independent System Operator, ISO New England, the Ontario Independent System Operator, The Midwest Independent System Operator, Southwest Power Pool, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, the California Independent System Operator and the Alberta Electric System Operator.
Topics that are addressed include wind energy scheduling and procurement and the role of wind forecasting.
UWIG has stated that it intends to update the document as regional electricity markets continue to evolve.
The document can be downloaded at uwig.org.
