Renewable NRG Systems has sold a WINDCUBE LIDAR to VENTUS, a Uruguayan wind energy engineering consultancy firm. VENTUS will use the LIDAR for its wind resource assessment campaigns, power curve verification and wind farm optimization requirements across Latin America.
The WINDCUBE v2 uses pulsed Doppler LIDAR technology to provide data on par with a traditional met mast. LIDAR advocates say the technology can be quickly deployed for fast collection of bankable data without the need for special permits.
According to Renewable NRG Systems, this sale underscores the growing interest in LIDAR in Latin America. The region has some of the best wind resources in the world. According to the Global Wind Energy Council, Uruguay could have 2 GW of wind power installed by 2020, a target that could be exceeded if the planned grid interconnection between Uruguay and Brazil moves forward.
