Austin, Texas-based Electric Reliability Council of Texas Inc. (ERCOT), has named H.B. ‘Trip’ Doggett as chief operating officer (COO).

Doggett is currently providing consulting and project management services to ERCOT related to market participant readiness for implementation of a nodal market in Texas. He served as an independent facilitator for the Texas Nodal Team, an ERCOT stakeholder team that developed the ERCOT nodal protocols, and has chaired the Texas Nodal Transition Plan Task Force since 2005.

As COO, Doggett will direct system operations, system planning, market operations and compliance. He is scheduled to begin his new position June 1, pending confirmation from the board of directors.

‘Trip Doggett is highly respected by ERCOT staff and the market participants for his professional leadership and knowledge of ERCOT and the Texas electric market,’ says Bob Kahn, ERCOT CEO. ‘He has worked closely with ERCOT since before the opening of the current zonal market and played a critical role in preparations for the upcoming nodal market. We will work together to assure a smooth transition for leadership of the market readiness portion of the nodal project and the Texas Nodal Transition Plan Task Force.’

Doggett has 28 years experience in the electric power industry, including the last seven years as an independent consultant in the ERCOT market. Prior to leading the market engagement and readiness team, he was involved in the stakeholder development and implementation of the zonal protocols.
