Testinglab Denmark To Construct Lightning Testing Facility

0

Testinglab Denmark APS plans to construct a testing facility for full-scale lightning tests. The laboratory will facilitate testing of large wind components against the damaging effects of lightning and other phenomena related to high-voltage and high-impulse current.

The test bay will be 73 meters long, 28 meters wide and 14 meters high in order to accommodate test objects such as wind turbine blades and nacelles.

‘We believe that the wind turbine industry will continue to request more and more testing and verification of its new wind turbine designs,’ says Kim Bertelsen, general manager of Testinglab Denmark.

The test equipment can deliver impulse currents up to 250,000 ampere and impulse voltages higher than 2 million volts. All test equipment will be mobile in order to test outside of the facility.
