Technostrobe has launched its LIDS (Lighting Intensity Dimming Solution) Technology for wind turbines. The company says the product, which stems from a development partnership with Vaisala, combines visibility measuring devices, LED lighting equipment and a communications network.
According to Technostrobe, the presence of obstruction lights on tall towers is necessary for the safety of both pilots and the traveling public. These lights are set to flash at maximum intensity to provide pilots the necessary help when traveling in the worst-possible visibility conditions.
The company says LIDS Technology provides a means of tailoring the intensity level of the lights on a wind farm in accordance with the surrounding visibility. The purpose of the solution is to dim the lights under clear sky conditions. Under great visibility conditions (10 km of visibility or more), Technostrobe says the intensity of the lights will be reduced by 90% while still providing the necessary advanced warning to pilots. Using this technology may help developers obtain a greater level of community acceptance for their projects, the company adds.
