A custom-designed wind tunnel that can vary airflow, temperature and humidity has been installed in Super Radiator Coils' (SRC) plant in Richmond, Va., to provide greater capability to develop advanced heat exchanger coils for commercial and industrial use and for possible use with wind energy.
The 45-foot-long, 15-foot-high, closed-loop wind tunnel with a 63 cubic-foot test section is the centerpiece of a new, $1 million-plus testing lab at the facility.
‘Besides developing conventional products, the new lab will test designs for new-age applications, including coils for NASA, jet engine manufacturers, turbines in windmill generators, fuel cells, solar collectors and other alternative sources of energy,’ says Jon Holt, chairman and CEO of Super Radiator Coils.
The wind tunnel was designed to SRC's specifications and manufactured by Aerotech Inc.
