Plano, Texas-based SunChips, a Frito-Lay brand, has added the Green-e designation from the Center for Resource Solutions to the packaging for its full line of snacks.
‘Including the Green-e [logo] on the SunChips line of snacks gives the brand an opportunity to communicate its commitment to support green energy, and hopefully, will remind and encourage consumers to take their own small steps to make our world a brighter place,’ says Gannon Jones, vice president of marketing for Frito-Lay North America.
According to the company, SunChips' brand communications will focus on small steps as part of the its Live Brightly campaign. SunChips says one of its small steps is the support of green energy through the purchase of renewable energy certificates (REC) to match 100% of the electricity needed to produce SunChips snacks in the U.S.
The RECs that the SunChips brand purchased are part of a PepsiCo REC purchase announced in April, which matches the electricity use of all of Frito-Lay's U.S.-based facilities. Frito-Lay North America is the convenient foods division of PepsiCo.
