Siemens Takes Part In Collaboration To Create New Blade Composite System

DSM, 3B – the fiberglass company, Siemens Wind Power and DTU Wind Energy have teamed up to create a new composite system for making wind turbine blades.
According to the companies, the new system is based on DSM's Beyone 201-A-01 resin, which brings faster resin infusion and requires limited post-cure, and incorporates 3B's SE3030 glass rovings. Through an optimized sizing applied on the glass filaments, a better fiber/resin interaction is obtained, resulting in improved composite properties for a long-lasting blade operation, the companies add.

Siemens Wind Power is evaluating the new material system for its next-generation wind turbine blades.

"For Siemens, the new composite system provides many benefits, including a major reduction in blade manufacturing cost and an increased process output," says Siemens' Karsten Schibsbye.
