Sustainable Energy Developments Inc. (SED), an Ontario, N.Y.-based developer of decentralized wind projects, has completed the installation of a Northwind 100 kW wind turbine at Hyannis Country Garden in Hyannis, Mass.

‘I hope this wind turbine will demonstrate that Cape Cod has a rich, untapped wind resource that allows homegrown businesses like Hyannis Country Garden and the local community to create their own energy independence,’ says Dave Strong, senior project manager for SED. ‘I also hope this project raises awareness about the rising cost of electricity and how this problem can bring out the best in locally owned businesses.’

Diana Duffley, owner of Hyannis Country Garden, received a grant from the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative to fund the project. This is the first commercial-scale wind turbine in Cape Cod and is expected to bring Country Garden $30,000 a year in electric savings, according to SED.
