Southern California Edison (SCE), a purchaser of renewable energy, has signed two contracts that could provide the utility's customers with more than 185 MW of environmentally friendly generation, according to the company.
The 20-year agreements, subject to approval by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), are for geothermal and wind generation.
One contract is for the Daggett Ridge Wind Farm, an affiliate of AES Corp., which is located in Barstow, Calif., and has the potential of generating 85 MW of power. The second contract is with Ormat Nevada Inc. for as much as 100 MW of geothermal power.
The new contracts result from SCE's 2007 competitive renewable energy solicitation launched on March 12. SCE plans to submit the agreements to the CPUC in the near future for review and approval. SCE anticipates seeking offers for its 2008 solicitation during the first quarter of 2008.
