This summer, Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) will be testing the drivetrain for its 7 MW offshore wind turbine at a new facility at the U.K.-based National Renewable Energy Centre (Narec).
According to Narec, SHI's nacelle will be shipped to NAREC and used to commission the 15 MW-rated test center. Through a six-month program, the equipment will be performance tested under simulated offshore wind conditions. The Energy Technologies Institute is providing £25 million in funding to the facility.
