In the aftermath of the Fukushima nuclear disaster that has plagued Japan, the country is planning to add floating wind turbines to its northern coast, Reuters reports, citing a trade ministry official.

According to the Reuters report, Japan plans to spend 10 billion to 20 billion yen to build six or more floating wind turbines off its northeast coast. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Fuji Heavy Industries are said to be among the companies involved in the development of the turbines.

The report follows on the heels of Japan's passage of a feed-in tariff for renewable energy, enacted last month.
